The varsity football team unloaded from the bus a little after 1 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26 following the game against Jefferson City.
After reaching their cars, the joy of victory soon melted away
Shattered glass and stolen items from their cars gave the players an unwelcome greeting.
The emergency response team, a committee that develops solutions for all types of emergencies, met to dissect the situation.
After much consideration and discussion, the reponse team decided to designate a separate parking lot to those students who leave their vehicles at school for a long period of time.
In addition, during that time, a security officer will be watching over the vehicles.
The designated parking lot has been strategically chosen as one of the State Line Rd. lots, since that is the most well-lit and visible lot.
The solution, which was sent to all parents with the Netclassroom grade updates, came with suggestions reagarding the safety of student property.
To avoid possible burglary, the response team presented the simple suggestions of locking doors, rolling up windows and keeping all valuables in a safe and out-of-sight area.
“People have been foolish in leaving iPods, phones and all that in plain sight. The newsletter that went home Monday gave some simple suggestions to prevent this issue,” Mr. Larry Ruby, principal and member of the committee, said.
The response team plans to meet again during the spring semester to evaluate the solution and analyze the situation. Additionally, the team will fix any unanticipated problems with the solution at that time.
