Next year’s SGA elections are coming up, and as potential voters, Rockhurst needs to be informed about the candidates. Here are the candidates:

SGA Presidential Candidates

Matthew Gude

Junior Matthew Gude is a very experienced leader. No matter what he has done, he has always been one of the leaders from Freshman Retreat Core Team to various positions in SGA. Next year, he hopes to lead once more, this time as SGA president.

“I want to be the [leader of] the Rockhurst student body,” Gude said. “I believe I have the determination and experience to lead effectively and deliver what is best for the students.”

And he most certainly does have this experience he speaks of; he has been involved in the SGA for three years as class vice-President, class president, and secretary on the executive committee.

“Above all, I think experience with SGA affairs as well as experience in dealing with the administration, the student body, and the outside community is what an effective President needs,” Gude said.

According to senior Darius Grayer, current SGA president, this experience in the SGA will be helpful for Gude if he is elected.

“[Matthew] Gude has been involved in SGA since his freshman year,” Grayer said. “He has knowledge of the system that should help him next year if he were to be elected.”

Should Gude be elected to office next year, his prior SGA leadership should unquestionably prove beneficial. One thing is for certain though; whatever the outcome may be, Matthew will have a GUDE year.

Zac Hardwick

Junior Zac Hardwick has done many things at Rockhurst high school. He has participated in numerous sports and clubs, and has committed many hours of service to projects like the Harvest Food Drive.

Next year, he hopes to say he did one more thing while at Rockhurst: become the SGA president.

“I have many goals and objectives to improve the school [if I become president],” Hardwick said. “As a guy that’s been on the outside, I completely understand from a student’s perspective what we [Rockhurst] needs.”

And in fact, Zac Hardwick has been everywhere on the “outside” from playing varsity lacrosse to serving as vice-president for the M.E.E.T. club.

“Understanding how different organizations and social groups function within Rockhurst is one of my core strengths as a candidate,” Hardwick said. “My experience in being involved in a wide variety of activities helps me understand exactly what students want out of this school.”

According to senior Darius Grayer, current SGA president, this understanding should prove valuable if Hardwick were to be elected.

“Zac’s experience in things like Model U.N. and Speech and Debate should help him exceed in his endeavors as SGA president, if he were to be elected,” Grayer said. “His involvement in many different activities would greatly help him with possibly leading the student body next year.”

Should Hardwick be elected to the position of SGA president for this upcoming year, his diverse experiences should undoubtedly help him. No matter what though, according to him (and many classmates), he will always Z-Go Hard!

SGA Vice President Candidates

Joseph Harris

Junior Joseph Harris has always wanted to be an official SGA officer. This year, he may be just that.

“I would like the position of SGA vice president [for the upcoming school year],” Harris said. “I feel it is where I can make the most difference in the SGA.”

If this were to happen, Harris has ambitious goals he hopes to fulfill.

“My primary goal is to get the students involved,” Harris said. “Next year [if I were to be elected] I hope to make student life phenomenal.”

And Harris may get a chance to do just that.

Henry Hilliard

Junior Henry Hilliard aspires to do big things at Rockhurst, and this upcoming year, he is striving to be a leader in SGA.

“Serving [in the SGA] has been a joy and a privelege,” Hilliard said. “I hope to continue such work if elected vice president.”

Hilliard has done much work at Rockhurst, including things like Homecoming from his role as Treasurer.

“I have, and will continue to work incredibly hard to accomplish any task I am faced with,” Hilliard said.

Should he be elected, this work ethic that Hilliard has shown throughout his Rockhurst career should undoubtably aid him in any task his senior year.

Senior Class President Candidates

Kit Linscott

Junior Kit Linscott enjoys working in the Student Government. Running unopposed, he will be able to continue his work next year as well as semior class president.

“SGA has always been one of my favorite activities at Rockhurst,” Linscott said. “Even as a freshman, I had a drive to get involved. So now, as a [soon to be] senior, I am hoping to become the senior class president.”

His experience is undeniable; his willpower and work ethic are self-evident. Kit Linscott knows what it takes to lead.

“I believe that I will be a strong leader because of my past experience and passion for SGA,” Linscott said.

Next year, he will be able to continue his strong leadership as senior class president.

Senior Class Vice President Candidates

Joey Lucas

Junior Joey Lucas, Rockhurst high school student, wants to have an impactful senior year by becoming the senior class’s vice president.

“I chose to run for senior vice president because I feel like I can have a meaningful impact on the class of 2012’s senior year,” Lucas said. “I feel like after a year full of ups and downs that I can help put a final know in the class of 2012’s legacy.”

Lucas may not have much experience, but he more than makes up for that in leadership.

“I have leadership experience in sports, like football and baseball, and places where I’ve worked, like waterway.” Lucas said.

Next year, he hopes to get another chance to lead in a new position.

Pete Sorrentino

Junior Pete Sorrentino has been in SGA for the past two years, serving as the class vice president both times. He hopes to continue his vice presidency into next year as well, possibly serving as the senior class’s vice president.

“I am running for senior class vice president,” Sorrentino said. “I feel that I am the best suited for this position because of my past experience in SGA and my personality.”

Should he be elected into office next year, his experience should prove invaluable.

“I have been able to help Rockhurst and the community [in the past] and [will in the future].” Sorrentino said.

Should he be elected to SGA once more, he will have the chance to help even more.

Junior Class President Candidates

John Fox

Sophomore John Fox has done many things while at Rockhurst high school, but what he has not done is been a class president. This upcoming year, he hopes to rectify that.

“When the chance to run for SGA junior class president presented itself to me, I decided to jump at it,” Fox said.

He already has many goals and plans he would like to see implemented, if he were to be elected.

“My goals as junior class president are simple,” Fox said. “ I would like to establish a relationship with all the junor class, bring the wow factor back into the social events, and push to extend the giving policy of mission week beyond just that week.”

Next year, he may have a chance to implement some of these ideas.

Brody Nutt

Brody Nutt is a truly unique person at a truly unique place like Rockhurst. Next year, he hopes to do one more unqie thing by becoming class president.

“ I am seeking to be elected Junior class president in order to help friends and classmates on their journeys to becoming men for others,” Nutt said.

Nutt also has several key points he’d like to emphasize if he should get elected.

“My main goal is to bring the class of 2013 together as a whole,” Nutt said. “ I would give all students as opportunity to have their voices heard and to be invovled in the SGA.”

Next year, he hopes to be able to give students that opportunity as class president.

Dalton Prins

Rockhurst sophomore Dalton Prins wants to change the apathetic attitude some students have towards the SGA and its events. Next year, should he be elected to the role of junior class president, thats exactly what he hopes to do.

“With some of the students in my class, I notice that they dont really care about what the SGA does or improves in our school,” Prins said. “I aim to change that.”

Prins, if he is elected next year, has the experience and personality to enact this idea.

“I have been very involved in student councils and governments [in the past],” Prins said. “I can also help the SGA [by way of] my very outgoing personality.”

Junior Class Vice President Candidates

John Berrigan

Sophomore John Berrigan hopes to make student experiences, and the Rockhurst community as a whole, better at all times, if he is elected class vice president.

“The idea that a community can always be improved by the people living in it is my inpspiration for perusing the office of junior class vice president,” Berrigan said. “I want to make the Rockhusrt community better.”

Berrigan has seen the impact Rockurst can have on others, and he hopes to continue this tradition if he is elected to the office of junior class president for the upcoming year.

Andy Van Buskirk

Sophomore Andy Van Buuskirk knows much about being a leader, and next year he hopes to be able to show that as the junior class vice president.

“I know about being a leader through both boy scouts and soccer,” Van Buskirk said. “ I was able to be a patrol leader in the boy scouts, and in soccer I try to help by giving teammates advice.”

Van buskirk hopes to apply the leadership experience he has gained from boy scouts and soccer next year if he is elected. He hopes to strengthen the spirit and unity of the (soon to be) junior class.

“ My goal is to make the class of 2013 the best in the school,” Van Buskirk said.

Next year, he hopes to get an opportunity to do just that.

Sophomore Class President Candidates

Matthew Brocato

Freshmen Matthew Brocato is looking to be elected once more to the postion of class president. After serving last year, he hopes to be able to continue what he started.

“I feel that with my leadership experience, oganization skills, responsibility and personality, I would be an ideal candidate for this position,” Brocato said.

Brocato also hopes to accomplish goals he has set for himself last year, and build on them further.

“My main goal as class president would be to make sure that everyone participates [in the extras Rockhurst has to offer],” Brocato said. “Overall, as long as I have bettered the sophomore class and school to the best of my ability, I believe that I [will] have succeeded as a class president.”

Shea McEnerny

Freshmen Shea McEnerny has been at rockhurst for over seven months now, and has no regrets. Wanting to take advantage of all opportunities available, he now wants to be the sophomore class president.

“When I heard about the opportunity, I thought about it and then said to myself ‘why not?’,” McEnerny said. “As a leader, I will be proactive and confident when it comes to the conflicts of my classmates and opes to their ideas.”

McEnenerny has prior experience in student governments before, and he hopes to carry those experiences over to next year. He hopes to use those experiences to aid him in accomplishing the many goals he has hopes to achieve.

“As the sophomore president, I will make it my number one priority to be open to the voices of the students, be an excellent contributor to the SGA, and work to make the Rockhurst community the best it can be,” said McEnerny.

Zachary Nickerson

Freshmen Zachary Nickerson hopes to bring and increase the organization and creativity in the SGA, something that he believes the SGA would improve upon if he were elected to the role of class president.

“[Organization and creativity] are my two greatest strengths,” Nickerson said. “Due to this, I believe I can add to Rockhurst’s [SGA].”

In running and maintaining his own company, Nickerson says he gained skills he could apply to the SGA and help to improve it.

“These skills that aid in my understanding of what people like will help me contribute to the SGA,” Nickerson said.

Sophomore Class Vice President Candidate

Jules Nazzaro

Freshmen Jules Nazzaro enjoyed his first year as class vice president so much that now he wants to be vice president again.

“I love to take on the challenge of being in SGA and want to have the opportunity to be a leader [once more],” Nazzaro said. “If I didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t be doing it [again].”

Nazzaro wants the SGA to accomplish more goals next than were accomplished this year, and he hopes to be a part of it.

“Overall, we have achieved very much this year, and next year should have more to come,” Nazarro said.
