It’s a matter of weeks until spring break and you want a body to show off when the time comes. If you want to achieve that goal, though, the time to start is now. Fortunately for you, I’m here to help. With help from not only fitness experts like state champion runners and football players, but their coaches too. Here is my beginners’ guide to that spring break body you always wanted.

For the guy looking to bulk up

Want to get “swoll”? Well, my friend, the truth is that the majority of the battle takes place in the kitchen. Of course, spending your time in the weight room is important, but the number one rule for getting huge is to eat. A lot. When trying to get big, you want to focus on high weight and low reps when lifting. Try 3 sets of 6. Eat high calorie foods like peanut butter, eggs and whole milk and ingest lots of fats, proteins, and carbs.

For the guy looking to get cut

Probably the most common for spring breakers, this particular goal focuses on getting rid of some of the unwanted body fat along with getting leaner muscles. The secret is to get a good blend of cardio, interval training, lifting, and of course, the ladies favorite: abs. Focus on higher reps to your lift, like sets of 10. Eat a leaner diet with little fat such as foods like chicken and fish.

For the guy looking to lose a few pounds

Don’t need to bulk up or get cut? Just want to lose a few spare pounds to look and feel better? Well, the secret to this is cardio and diet. In order to lose weight, you must burn more calories than you consume. Therefore, your first step is to eat healthy. Try eliminating fattening and unhealthy foods. Substitute them with fruits or vegetables instead, while at the same time reducing portions. Devote a half hour or so a few times a week to run, bike, or do something else active.several times a week. Try jogging, interval running, or biking. Its all about getting the heart rate up and keeping it up.

For the average Joe

I highly recommend having an active lifestyle in order to feel and perform to your best.  Say you don’t have time, or just don’t want to work out: there are some everyday things to make you feel better and be healthier. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated (try drinking a couple bottles throughout school). Substitute Zebra Cakes at lunch for an apple, or yogurt. Get 8 hours of sleep, your body needs it. Eat a healthy breakfast every morning to help with energy.
