Demetree, decided on taking choir because they heard it was a fun and relaxing class to take. Additionally, Demetree found he had a talent that he had never known that he had.

One fourth of the freshman class is enrolled in choir. Mr. Anderson is very pleased and proud to see so many students interested in the program.

“We definitely defied expectations…and there is just shear strength in numbers which really helps the guys,” Mr. Anderson said.

Mr. Anderson hopes that the large amount of freshmen will produce more quality singers, but for now the large class size has greatly benefited the program.

The course also acts as a social meeting place for those freshmen that came in to Rockhurst from a relatively small middle school. These

first year students will have the opportuinty to meet students with similar interests while cultivating a love for the arts.

“Because I’m a freshman and this is a new school to me, I like having the big class because I have the opportunity to meet other guys… And it’s also reassuring to have so many other students singing alongside me, because even though I’m not the best sing- er, it makes singing in a group much easier,” Demetree said.

Mr. Anderson strongly believes that the number of freshman who joined choir this year and last year will only help the program.

This interest for first year choir, while not a guarentee in and of itself, has left Mr. Anderson with high expectations for years to come.
